Volunteer

Do you have some free time? The Conservation District is always looking for volunteers to help in achieving the goals the District has set for service to the community.

Volunteers generally provide support services to paid staff and / or work on special projects as designated in the District’s annual plan or work on pre-approved projects of the District.

Selection of Volunteers

Volunteers are selected based on their qualifications in relation to the needs of the District. Prospective volunteers are requested to fill out an application. Application forms will be kept on file for future projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Volunteers are expected to act in accordance with District policies.
  • Volunteers are asked to be reliable in their commitment and to notify the District in advance if they are unable to work.
  • Individuals are asked to wear a name badge that identifies them as a volunteer while they are working.
  • Volunteers are asked to notify the District when they are reporting for service and to keep an accurate record of the hours they work.

Training and Supervision

  • Volunteers will receive specific training in their assigned duties from staff members or appropriate conservation partners.
  • All reasonable care will be taken to ensure the safety of volunteers.

Work Schedules

  • Volunteers will receive specific scheduled hours in coordination with the project he or she is working on. Hours are generally flexible.

Leaving Volunteer Service

  • A volunteer selected for work on a special project will discontinue service when that project is completed, unless other arrangements have been made.
  • In the event that a volunteer is unable to adequately perform the duties assigned to him or her, and no other appropriate positions are available, the volunteer may be removed from service.

Appreciation and Recognition

Volunteers having logged hours of service to the District and community will receive recognition based upon the number of hours of service.
