Nutrient Management Program
Nutrient Management
Pennsylvania’s Nutrient Management Act provides for the establishment of a program to address agricultural nonpoint source pollution
on large animal operations. The law requires these farms to develop and implement nutrient management plans and provides incentives
to encourage smaller operations to also do so. The legislation allows for conservation districts to participate in the administration
and enforcement of the provisions of the act. The legislature, as well as the supporting farm organizations and agencies, has entrusted
the conservation districts with the fundamental responsibilities under this act.
Did you know that all farms generating / using manure must now have a manure management plan? The revised
DEP Manure Management Manual released in October 2011 requires every farm in Pennsylvania that produces or applies manure to develop
and implement a written Manure Management Plan (MMP).
The Lawrence County Conservation District can help you
learn the new regulations and write your plan. Please contact Lauren Anderson @ landerson@lawrencecd.org.
